Carb Basket: Japonica Rice
Meat Basket: Honey Mustard Baked Chicken Thigh
Vege Basket: Butter Steamed Vegetables, Cucumber Sticks, Gooseberries, Blueberries and Honeydew Pudding.
Either the fastest bento I've ever made or the slowest, since I couldn't bake my chicken till 11pm when mom was done with the oven.
25/9 Menu for Dad and Me
Carb Basket: Salah Soba with Soba Sauce and Pork Cubes
Vege Basket: Herb Butter Salad with ♥ egg and cherry tomato, Sake Stir Fry Mixed Veg
Meat Basket: Gambit Chicken (Hot and Cajun)
Finally got dad a proper bento box. Although, I hate his box. It is small and I have no room to add more veges without skimping on the meats or carbs.
As it turns out, my Salah Soba is well named, according to Brightside. Not only have I used the soba sauce wrongly, because it's supposed to be diluted, I thought it was a sauce one poured over the noodles rather than a dipping sauce. I ended up with ultra-salah soba - wrong noodles, wrong spices, wrong way of using sauce. I'm quite proud of it ^_^
And because my family helped take care of my dog yesterday, I made them all dinner - Salah Sayur Soba.
24/9 Menu
Carb Basket: Sushi and baked sweet potato
Meat Basket: Pouch Salmon
Vege Basket: China Nectarine and Grapes, Pomegranate Salad with Japanese Cucumber and Honey Cherry Tomatoes.
NEW BENTO BOX!!! KYUUUTE @____@
Staying over at Elle's house today, so we both made the meats together. Hope it turned out nice :/ Might be a bit bland because I... forgot to season it <_<; Mm. Yes.
Carb Basket: Spicy Yakisoba with fish dumplings
Meat Basket: Pouch-baked Bell Pepper Pork, Chive Dumpling
Vege Basket: Steamed shanghai greens with carrots and a baby corn, cherry tomato, grapes and pudding.
However, Dad left home his box of goodies thinking it was another meal. Which goes to show the man needs a proper bento box with a BAG so his meals are more or less idiot-proof. I wonder how I'll get to cooking when I'll be out late. Prepped alot of the in ingredients. Also owe Brightside a Salmon Pouch which I hope will be okay since she likes her food very delicately seasoned while I have a tongue that tastes food sledgehammer.
I need to find a better location to take photos than on my kitchen counter -.-
Bentos!
Making food for parents too, since I know dad's a skinflint who will skip lunch, and mom is a workaholic who eats silly unhealthy sandwiches with no veg in them. I ate so much over the weekend with my trip Raya Visiting with Brightside, and then a big meal at lunch today. My god, must gym tomorrow.
Box 1: Japonica Rice and Siew Mai
Box 2: Baby Corn, Spinach Tamago, Cherry Tomato, Strawberry Pudding and Grapes
Box 3: Yakitori, Blanched Eggs and Stir Fry Bean Sprouts.
So three days have passed and I have been faithfully making myself Bentos. It's a week and I realize that as my cooking time reduces, alot of time is spent making the food look pretty. I guess that is the price I pay for having a very utilitarian approach to cuisine: i.e. it'll look the same on the way out anyway, so why bother with pretty?
Here's a Bento update for the last three days including menus:
Box 1: Fried Chilli Corned Beef
Box 2: Steamed Siew Mai, Japanese Rice with Nori
Box 3: Eggs and Ham with Baco Bits, Stir Fry Vegetables
Rating: 4.5/5 - I <3 Fried Chilli Corned Beef!! Egg was bleh and my burps smelled of bacon bits all day :/
16/9 Menu
Box 1: Siew Mai and Gyoza, Japonica Rice
Box 2: Yakiniku Beef, Mushrooms and Onions on a lettuce bed
Box 3: Steamed Butter Vegetables seperated by lettuce, hard boiled egg, cherry tomato, champagne grapes and a cup pudding.
Rating: 4/5 - nice mix but a bit heavy with the beef. Damn Gyoza edge got hard again -.-
17/9 Menu
Box 1: Fish dumplings, Vegetable Fish Rolls, Chive Gyoza, Heart Eggs
Box 2: Steamed Vegetables, Champagne Grapes, Honeydew Pudding with Nata de Coco
Box 3: Yakisoba with Bean Sprouts, Beef and Chikuwa
Rating: 4.5/5 YAKISOBA RULES, although I know it was a carb overload :/ The vegetable fish rolls were a bit too 'fishy' for me so I won't be having those again <_< Otherwise, was awesome.
Yes, I'm wondering if my diet is the one that is making me fat. Hm... perhaps it must be. Because for some reason whenever I eat, my tummy gets bigger so... MAYBE IT IS THE FOOD @_@
Therefore, I came to the conclusion that I really am not having a healthy diet. Therefore, I'm going to endeavour to begin a bento box program which will hopefully last more than 3 days. So I made sure I got 2 parts complete protein (stir-fry chicken and egg), 1 part vegetables (probably 1.5 because I'm not a fan of cherry tomatoes :/), 1 part carb and 1 part yummeh (today being dumplings).
Yeah, those seperators... one was Brightside's but it ended up in my bag so... now they are mine and I owe her a dollar >_<; On the other hand, smelling the food makes me hungry... so hungry... I think I need a light breakfast, like a sandwich or something.
Japonophilia strikes again - this time in the form of Natsu Matsuri. Dressing for it has become my per project of the month. Hence, I have rented a yukata. I realize that I lack two belts, but what the hell. Normal belts with suffice. Putting it on was the work of a moment, considering how short I am and how long the thing is. The folds were like... wah o.0
On the other hand, this is the one ethnic costume where I find that having no waist line is a boon; though perhaps this wasn't made for people with junk in the trunk because the obi keeps folding up. In dedication to she who introduced me to this madness, I give you my yuka-pics.
Her my variation of the Bunko bow which I call the Nubko (if you get this joke, you increase your Nerd stats by +2). Doesn't look like it but my hips are actually forward because the obi bends when I stand straight. Obis were not designed for women with junk in the trunk.
All in all, this is fun, though keeping the folds here and there takes a bit of getting used to. I hope... with all this... that we are able to get tickets to the festival and actually wear these things.

Me: Why don't you use the proper mouse I bought for you instead of this stupid small laptop excuse?
Mom: This mouse is okay, what.
Me: You'll get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Mom: I already have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - in your head.
Me: ha. ha. no u.
